In the second installment of Have Dog, Will Travel, we visited the National Arboretum in Northeast Washington, DC a few weeks back. The Arboretum was recently voted a hidden gem by the Washingtonian, and I couldn’t agree more! I couldn’t believe my DC born and raised boyfriend had never even heard of this huge park. It’s basically a ton of different gardens and plant life areas perfect for letting the dog run around or having picnics.
The Arboretum was definitely very dog friendly and has so much to see. Did you know that old columns from theĀ CapitolĀ are kept there? There are dozens of smaller gardens with roses, bonsai, magnolias, ferns, azalea, and Asian plants. The Arboretum is free to visit & to park, so if you’re ever looking for a cheap day out, I can’t suggest this place enough.

Of all the day-trips we take with the puppy, the Arboretum has the most green space for letting her run around. We can’t wait to take Tilly back to the Arboretum again!

Great photos! The arboretum is definitely a wonderful find in DC! You’ve reminded me that I should make a trip there again soon!
Cheers,
Bree
