Brunch & Girls Night Out

1. Girls weekend

This weekend was filled with the most girl time I’ve had since moving to DC!

First was a brunch Ashley planned at Urbana with all of my favorite blogger friends and some new gals as well. For brunch I wore my new wayfarers courtesy of SmartBuy Glasses. They had asked me if I’d like to browse through their designer eyeglasses and pick my favorite, so I was happy to find such classic designer sunglasses that will remain in style for many future brunch outings. Seriously, I think I brunch once a week in DC. It’s the thing to do here and if bottomless mimosas are the cool thing, then I’m all in.

After brunch this weekend group of us gals got together for some fancy bar hopping. From POV at the W to Sax and Barcode, it made me happy to make new friends and check some DC staples off my to-do list all at once.

2. Cup of Jo’s top 10 documentary list

I love most things Joanna Godard does, so when she posted 10 of her favorite documentaries and every single one sounded interesting. So by the end of the year, through hacking into my parent’s Netflix account, it’s my goal to watch all ten by the end of the year.

3. Young House Love coming to DC

One of my favorite home design blogs, Young House Love, just announced their big fall book tour and they’re stopping in DC! RSVP here to join me and get a signed copy of their book.

4. Pin it to win it

I practically wrote a novel about this in my last post, but me winning Joss & Main’s Pinterest contest is a big deal in my household.

5. Early pumpkin picking

Dc lifestyle blog, reidmore, fashion, decor, blog, favorites

It’s the time of year again when it’s finally acceptable to decorate the apartment with pumpkins. I brought these two pumpkins back from the grocery store (and proceeded to paint one gold… that metallic shine is not natural) and Tilly can’t get over the idea that they’re not dog toys.

5 Favorites of the Week

1. Finishing MWF Seeking BFF

I started this book earlier this spring and finally found the time to finish the book. In MWF Seeking BFF, she challenges herself to go on 1 new friend “date” every week for the entire year. That’s 52 dates to find her new BFF in Chicago, where she doesn’t know a soul. It’s all about stepping outside your comfort zones and learning how to connect with new people. It really resonated with me since I’m new to DC and related to her story!

2. Georgetown Cupcakes does the Olympics

3. Housewarming fiesta

4. Keri in town to see the sights

5. Featured on Nine to Five

This week, Alex of the saga of a twenty-something & Shannon of The Scribble Pad featured me in their Nine to Five series! I’m definitely not a style blogger, so I was a nervous wreck having to stand in front of the camera. But Alex & Shannon were so sweet and flexible with me. Thanks girls for inviting me!

Top 5 Favorites: all of July

Hey ya crazy kids,

Please pardon my terrible blogging skills. The #1 rule of blogging is consistency and here I am being too busy to even write a freakin’ Friday favorite post. Can I blame it on moving, stressful job, vacation, and post-vacation madness? Please?

Here is a recap of some of the things making me happy this month…

#1 – Monogrammed clutch

I was never a sorority girl, so I’m not as obsessed with monograms like my fellow recent grads may be. But, when I stumbled upon this purse on Pinterest, I knew it had to be mine! All it took was a hint to my sister, and she gifted it to me for my birthday! I love the white color that will go with everything. Even better the clutch includes a chain strap so I can use it over my shoulder as well. My sister was a girl-genius and ordered the clutch in my school colors.

Ok… so maybe I’m more of an undercover hidden sorority girl than I care to admit.

#2 – Annapolis day trip

This past week I spent a few days in Annapolis for a work trip. Honestly, most of my time was spent holed up in a hotel conference room, but before leaving town I got a glimpse of a real live Naval Academy cadet (proper term?) and the harbor. Can’t wait to go back for a day trip! I had no idea it was so close.

#3 – Goat cheese & black bean quesadillas

It’s as delicious as it sounds, believe me.

#4 – Brandi Carlile concert at Wolf Trap

I’ve been a big Brandi Carlile fan for a few years now. After taking my parents to see her last summer, I was blown away at her live performances and was so excited when Sam semi-surprised me with tickets for her show this month! She did a show with Josh Ritter, some mopy lame singer who sounded like a weakling next to her powerful voice. Holy cow, that chick can sing.

The Wolf Trap venue was adorable, and I already have tickets for another show out on the lawn! Next month we’re going to see the Sound of Music live sing-along. We’ll be packing a picnic and wine, and I will be the girl up front singing along the loudest.

#5 – Chef Geoff’s brunch

What was supposed to be a walk to a nearby Starbucks, turned into a spontaneous brunch last weekend at Chef Geoff’s in my neighborhood. Unlike the brunches downtown DC that just offer bottomless mimosas, the meal included food, a mimosa/bloody mary, bottomless coffee, fruit, and breakfast pastries. Oy, we were stuffed. Happy to have such a cute little restaurant (dog friendly, too!) within walking distance.

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 6/16 – 6/22

Hi folks, as the move to my new apartment has consumed my last week, all of my favorites this week had to do with the big ‘ole move!

#1-5 : Moving to a safer, bigger, closer, friendlier apartment

Will post pics as soon as the boxes are out and the table is set!

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 6/2 – 6/8

1. Being featured over on My Little Maison

I “met” Mandy through twitter and was so excited when she was looking for bloggers to feature! This week she asked me a few questions on the blog about my home, blog, and design, among other things. I’m very grateful to Mandy for highlighting Reidmore! Be sure to check out her blog.

2. Learning how to home brew beer

3. Blogger Blitz & Brunch

Sunday I enjoyed 4+ hours of bottomless mimosas at Local 16 with some of my favorite DC bloggers. It was great to catch up with familiar faces and to meet some new great girls as well! What is it about DC and brunch? I’m addicted.

After a bubbly brunch, we walked a few blocks over to Marvin for Blogger Blitz. This was my first time attending the Blitz, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was nice to meet so many new local bloggers.

4. Sangria

I’ll be the first to admit that what you see above is not authentic Spanish sangria. I’ve lived in Spain for long enough to know that my version was just an Americanized-summer version. But holy cow, I don’t care. This sangria is that good.

And because it’s lighter with the white wine, the sangria is perfect for summer cook outs and get-togethers. In a pitcher, throw in some chopped up kiwis, raspberries, strawberries, lemon and lime slices, green apple pieces, and top with riesling and Fresca. Give the sangria some time to sit so the fruit soaks up the wine. You’ll thank me later.

5. Happy hour with work friends at the Majestic

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 5/26 – 6/1

Because I missed my top 5 last week, this one will consider the last two week’s!

1. Having work off today

Waiting for an email Thursday night at 9:30 pm to announce work for Friday has been canceled, is like a school child waiting to hear if school is canceled for a snow day. As soon as I learned the day would be free, plans of shopping, catching up on errands, and sleeping in were all I could think of!

2. Philly cheese steak

Ok, so perhaps I’m the only east coaster to never have tasted this Philadelphia deliacy, but oh. my. god. Wow this was delicious and full of a thousand calories. Now that I know how yummy these bad boys are, I’ll treat them like Ben’s Chili Bowl, a rare, but necessary treat.

We ended up choosing Geno’s as our cheesesteak place and I was very happy.

3. Cooking out with friends

Beer pong, grilled chicken, pasta salad, vodka watermelon slush. Need I say more?

Here is the recipe I used to make the watermelon vodka slush. It was a hit!

4. Andy Cohen book signing

Two weeks ago I met up with Natalie and Kendall to attend Andy Cohen’s book signing in Bethesda. He was even cuter in real life and seemed very bubbly and charming! I haven’t had a chance to start the book yet (it’s joining a waiting list of books I’m hoping to read) but can’t wait to learn more about how he got to be so successful.

5. Buying a couch for less than expected

This week I made one of my first major investments and purchased a real life (not from Craigslist) big girl sofa. And thanks to some smart shopping and the Memorial Day weekend, I walked away with a couch for waaaayyy less than I thought was possible. Funny note: the couch’s name is the Morgan sofa, no joke!

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 5/12 – 5/18

1. Getting an up close view of Andy Cohen at Bethesda Row’s The Front Row events

2. Moving out of Petworth earlier than planned

…and signing the papers on a place in Glover!

3. Filling out my Bachelorette Bracket

4. Day trip to Baltimore

5. Having gazpacho twice this week!

It’s the little things, y’all…

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 5/5 – 5/11

Hi friends,

Guess who is another year older? This chick. But more on that later.

1. Eric Hutchinson concert at the 9:30 club

I’ve been a fan of Eric Hutchinson and his catchy tunes for several years now. When I got the email that he’d be stopping by the 9:30 club this month, I had purchased tickets in about… two minutes.

Bonus fact: Did you know that Eric was raised in Takoma Park & Silver Spring? Another reason to love local music!

2. Passionista of the Week

While at the NOVA Fashion Week Behind the Scenes event last week I was approached by Sara of Art of a Lady to talk about my bright blue outfit! And wouldn’t you know it, the next day Sara was tweeting that she picked me to be the Passionista of the Week! Thanks, Sara – you made my week!

3. New Clarks shoes from Sam

Look at these sweet new Clarks desert boots from Sam! Love these and can’t wait to rock these.

4. Arm candy from Behind the Scenes

I guess I was going for a monochromatic look at the Behind the Scenes event!

Thanks to Natalie of Fashionably Broke Girls for the picture.

5. Finding a new apartment!

At the end of June, I will no longer be an official resident of Petworth. I’m more than ready to move out and am glad the complicated logistics of the new lease is already settled! Look forward to a house warming invite coming soon.

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 4/28 – 5/4

1. Behind the Scenes – Nova Fashion Week event

Last night after work, I rushed over to the Artisphere for an amazing event! I’ll post more later, but here is a sneak peek.

2. Joining the gym!

Any DC girls looking for a workout buddy at Washington Sports Club? Can’t wait to get my pilates on.

4. Business cards arriving

I’m absolutely floored with how awesome my real life reidmore business cards look. MOO was incredibly easy to work with, and they arrived quickly, looking sturdy and bright. I’ve heard of MOO time and time again, working in the wedding industry. Lots of brides like to use MOO cards to stick inside the invitation package, leading people to their wedding website. After checking out their site, I can think of a million more ways to use them!

4. Arboretum

Who knew Northeast DC could look like Greece?

5. The excuse for daily margaritas and guacamole with “Cinco de Mayo Week”

Top 5 Favorites of the Week: 4/21 – 4/27

1. H Street Country Club

I love a good margarita (see subheadline above) and was blown away by the Besos marg at the “country club.” The frozen mix of a classic margarita with a guava margarita was seriously delicious.

Sam hanging out at the “National Catherdral” hole

Now, I also happened to discover I’m not the best a mini-golf at this outing, but the miniature DC landmarks were too adorable to resist. There was a U Street with a Ben’s Chili Bowl, the crazy Beltway, a meter maid, and of course, the Washington Monument among other famous sites. I’m definitely adding this to my list of places to take out of town guests. It’s basically a tour of DC in under an hour.

2. Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume

You’ve probably noticed how nice I’ve been smelling the past week. It’s because I got some new perfume! I love the way it smells, and the bottle is too cute!

3. Living Social Beer & Foodtruck Festival

Despite the rain coming down like cats and dogs, this trip to the first Living Social Beer & Foodtruck Festival was a huge hit. I may have been knee deep in water, covered in a bright blue poncho, but I was also tasting lots and lots and lots of new beer, so I was happy. There were about 60 different beer tents at the Festival, all with 2 or 3 beer varieties to sample.  My favorites were by far the Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, a lemony beer, and Angry Orchard’s Hard Apple Cider. Both fruity and delicious. There were also several food trucks parked around the grounds. Sam and I got the Hot Rod and White Trash pie from Dangerously Delicious Pies and a southwest and roast beef panini from another sandwich truck.

4. Pups at the Park

This weekend Sam and I took Tilly to the Pups in the Park game so Tilly could experience her first baseball game. Tilly was more impressed by the other 100 dogs than the baseball game itself, but she was in heaven.

5. Disco Brunch with Blogger Friends

Have you ever been served a mimosa by a fabulous young man sporting a sequin jump suit and a boa? If not, be sure to check out Disco Brunch at Level One in Dupont. DC is truly the brunch capitol of the world and Level One did not disappoint. Like all other brunch spots in town, bottomless mimosas were the norm. I’m glad I had the chance to meet new bloggers, Ashlyn & Meaghan!
